It had been six months since the failed dinner meeting with our parents. My mother still wasn’t talking to me, had thrown my father out of the house, and filed for divorce. My father was staying at my old apartment, and I had moved in with Tone and Montel.

They had surprised me with a beautiful, seven-bedroom house in Belle Meade. I loved it and couldn’t wait to fill it with our children and love in the future.

I could tell Tone was messed up about his father disowning him. He tried to hide his pain, but I knew how close they were, and I hated being the cause of their broken relationship. Tone told me he was happy to be out of the streets so he wouldn’t have to worry about people coming for us since he now had a family. My baby dove head first into his businesses and was already working on opening more. Montel had to put off starting his own practice until next year, due to his mom finding out she had multiple sclerosis.

Luckily, she was now on a regimen which seemed to be working. I was meeting him and Tone in an hour for my check-up. Being that I was now eight months pregnant with fraternal twin boys, this was my last day before maternity leave. My back was killing me, and I was ready to vacate these boys out of my body because they were kicking my ass.

Heading into the cafeteria, I saw Cherry waving me over to a table in the corner. We had become friends and met up for lunch weekly, even though I saw her at the club as well. She had been instrumental in helping me navigate the Polyworld and impending motherhood.

Cherry stood up, rubbed my belly, and said, “Hey, beautiful! I can’t wait to meet my god babies! I grabbed you a grilled chicken salad and apple juice. Sit down because it looks like you are about to fall over.”

“I am! I have been in meetings all morning, and just now getting to relax. I was expecting to be home by now since the doctor said twins come early, but they don’t seem to want to leave their mama’s body right now,” I answered as I sat down.

Cherry laughed and replied, “Girl, I do not miss those days! I love my kids, but pregnancy did not agree with me! By the way, I have everything ready for your baby shower tomorrow. I invited everyone you three asked to come, and Tone set us up in a private room at the restaurant so we won’t be bothered by anyone else. Almost all one hundred and twenty-five people RSVP’d, so you should get lots of goodies for the babies. I can’t believe Tone is opening another restaurant the same day as the baby shower, but I heard a lot of celebrities and local politicians are coming tomorrow. He was smart to open one up in the heart of downtown by the courthouse and stadium.
